The headquarters of Janvessel is in the village of Bouzy, located on the eastern side of the "Montagne de Reims" region, which spans between Reims and Épernay (100% Grand Cru). Janvessel's owned vineyards are spread across the heart of clay-limestone soils that produce the finest Pinot Noir. This also explains why 90% of the grapes they cultivate are Pinot Noir (the remaining 10% is Chardonnay).
Founded in 1930, continuing the history of a family that started making Champagne three centuries ago. It is currently run by the second-generation female head, Delphine Vessel, and her husband David.
It is an exceptionally small Grower Champagne that produces Champagne only from grapes cultivated in their own vineyards, mainly 15ha of Grand Cru.
The total annual production is approximately 145,000 bottles. Their wines are characterized by strength, sophistication, and delicacy, harmoniously expressing the unique features of each terroir — this is the hallmark of Vessel wines.
In 2014, David's father retired, and at that time, the management of the Chouilly vineyards, which had been inherited from David's grandfather, was entrusted to David based on family trust. This marked an increase in the proportion of Chardonnay in their owned vineyards.
Moreover, they have always maintained a deep consideration for the environment, respecting nature as much as possible and limiting pesticide spraying to enhance the grape's natural immunity. Since 2000, they have completely stopped using herbicides, optimizing soil cultivation and natural weed growth.
They have a particularly close relationship with the importer Daiei Sangyo Co., Ltd., and the very first customer assigned by his father in 1990, when the current head was still a student, was Daiei Sangyo Co., Ltd. This has established a connection with Japan that has lasted more than 30 years. While Japan ranks third in the world in terms of champagne exports by country, for Janisson & Fils, Japan is the top export country in the world. They steadily expand their market share in Japan and are a champagne producer boasting unwavering popularity.
